Battle of Waterloo - Move 8


Table at the start of move 8

Top left – British hold Hougoumont
Top right – British withdraw from La Haye Sainte
Bottom left –French cavalry prepare to charge British artillery
Bottom right – French advance

French Left

French cavalry cut down gunners between Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte
French have retreated from Hougoumont
French have entered La Haye Sainte

French Right

The guard advance supported by heavy cavalry
D’Erlon advances towards British held ridge

British Left

Picton moves up his reserve infantry to support ridge
British cavalry pinned by guard and heavy cavalry

British Right

Hougoumont is secure
Withdrawal from La Haye Sainte has turned into a rout
British gunners all cut down between La Haye Sainte and Hougoumont

French light cavalry charge British artillery

Despite 10% casualties the French cavalry were able to charge the British artillery
The gunners then test to react.  
If they make their morale they can either fire or evade to supports
They failed the test and were cut down by the French cavalry
The lancers suffered more casualties from the garrison of Hougoumont garden
