Battle of Sorauren

Historical background

In July 1813 Wellington had forced the French to withdraw from Spain. He held the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, Marshal Soult the French side. On 25 July Soult attacked and forced Wellington to abandon Maya and Roncesvalles and retreat to the village of Sorauren, which is a few miles north of Pamplona. Wellington determined to halt the French advance at Sorauren, and ordered his scattered divisions to concentrate there.

  2. Hi Zu Pferd

Sorry its taken so long to reply. I did not receive an email notification of your post.

I got the OOB from a book which I borrowed from my local library about 30 years ago! I think it was called Wellington in the Peninsula, and it had a short section of each battle with a very brief OOB. I photocopied the sections, but not the title page.

You will find an OOB in Oman History of the Peninsular War Volume VI and also Jac Weller Wellington in the Peninsula. Neither very detailed for Sorauren.

    regards

    Paul
